phpBB 3.0.4 on PHP 5.3.0RC2

I went ahead and decided to try installing phpBB 3 on PHP 5.3.0RC2 running CGI. The initial build of PHP 5.3.0RC2 went incredibly smoothly, and only a handful of tests failed when I ran `make test.` Got it installed in my web server’s chroot environment and phpinfo runs fine. (After accidentally configuring CGI to use the CLI binary, hehe.)

After that phpBB3 however it gives me the white screen of death when I try progressing into installation. No matter what I do, I can’t seem to get an error message out of it. I’ll try to get some discernibly useful information from it in the coming days.  I suspect it’s crashing but the chroot doesn’t have direct access to debug tools, so I may need to set it up elsewhere first.

Immaterial and Missing Power

I’ve been playing quite a bit of Touhou Project’s Immaterial and Missing Power, and it is quite the addictive fighting game.  Most of the other Touhou project games are bullet-hell shooter games.  I’m kinda not so great at fighting games or bullet-hell games.  There’s an English patch, but you don’t really need it to play the game unless you want to follow the story. Amazon S3

I’ve decided to get an account with Amazon S3 – Simple Storage Service. It seems like it could be fairly handy if I wanted to host anything remotely large or requested frequently. Hmm… I plan to doing some stuff about the Touhou game, Immaterial and Missing Power, maybe I’ll try it out with that. Theoretically, I could also use it to store backups of my photos and such, at 0.15 cents per month per GB of storage, it’s not bad.

Google and Good Search

A while back a project called GoodSearch was brought to my attention where every search you made donated about one cent to the charity of your choosing.  This search happens to be based on Yahoo search so there’s not much incentive to return IMHO.  So I set up a little thing that let’s me search both simultaneously. Basically I store both in a frame and then hand off the query string from my app to both.  It has it’s drawbacks of course, like individual results are opened in the same frame for instance.  No matter, it killed some time.  It’s stored at https://rrbits.com/gs/

Planet Wallpaper

Followed Marvin X’s better planet tutorial.  Made a nice little wallpaper. It took a bit of time, but I’m happy with the result.  I added a few more layers to give it some more character, like the green lines along the surface of the planet and the extra cloud layer. Continue reading
